Too few parking spaces, especially when they are permanently assigned, can lead to unfair treatment of employees and cause stress before the workday even begins, since many employees are forced to use public parking spaces. These are in short supply, especially in urban areas.
The feeling of being treated unfairly and the high level of stress before each workday often lead to dissatisfaction among coworkers, which in turn lowers motivation and willingness to perform and can cost the employer money.
We need new solutions and smart systems to prevent these problems from arising in the first place. The comprehensive solution offered by the technology company ParkHere takes exactly this approach and has already helped various companies with smart parking management.
Giesecke+Devrient (G+D) is a global security technology group headquartered in Munich. G+D’s innovations make life safer for billions of people in both the digital and physical worlds. With its products and solutions, G+D is among the market and technology leaders in the areas of payments, connectivity, identities, and digital infrastructure.

High Vacancy Rates Despite High Demand – The Current Situation at G+D
At its Munich location, the company provides its employees with several hundred underground parking spaces. Some of these spaces were permanently leased, while others were assigned in the morning on a “first-come, first-served” basis. The waiting list for one of the coveted permanently assigned parking spaces continued to grow over time. Despite consistently high demand for on-site parking—due to sick days, vacation time, or off-site appointments—the daily utilization rate for all parking spaces was only 60%. In addition, over 200 parking spaces were lost due to a new construction project, which further exacerbated the situation.
To address the problem, Giesecke + Devrient decided to overhaul its parking management system and enlisted ParkHere to help find a solution. The goal was to implement an easy-to-use system that could be utilized by over 1,000 employees.
The ParkHere All-in-One Solution: The Ideal Solution
After a thorough analysis of the problem, ParkHere implemented the“Corporate Parking System”—a comprehensive solution consisting of an app, a dashboard, and a terminal.

Using the app—which employees can download for free onto their smartphones—employees can reserve parking spaces, ensuring they’ll have a spot whenever they need one. To do this, they can enter their license plate number and other information into the system via the app. In addition, ParkHere has implemented a digital payment module that gives employees an overview of current and past parking fees and allows them to pay these directly through the app. This reduces the administrative burden on payroll, as these costs no longer need to be processed as part of payroll.
The dashboard serves as a central organizational tool for the company, allowing authorized staff to create and manage employee accounts and booking groups. In addition, the dashboard enables users to view information on current and past parking space utilization and to create parking reservations for external guests, for example.
The terminal is used for access control at the entrance and exit of the parking garage and is equipped with a license plate recognition system and a QR code scanner. The camera installed in the terminal recognizes the license plate of the approaching vehicle with a detection rate of 98% and forwards the information directly to the company’s admin platform. If the vehicle owner’s license plate is on file there, the barrier opens automatically and the employee can drive into the parking garage.
Changes in Parking Management at Giesecke+Devrient
The implementation of the Corporate Parking System brought about numerous positive changes for Giesecke+Devrient. Employees were provided with a fair, predictable, and well-regulated parking situation. The practice of assigning fixed parking spaces to employees was eliminated and replaced with a flexible and transparent reservation system. This led to an increase in parking space utilization from an initial 60% to consistently over 90%, as well as an improvement in employee satisfaction. This can be attributed in particular to the fact that it is now rare for no parking spaces to be available at all.
Through the dashboard, the company can now monitor current parking space utilization at any time. In addition, Giesecke+Devrient can also create different booking groups—for example, employees with company cars, company cars with electric or hybrid powertrains, or employees with small vehicles.
To ensure that the rollout of the new system went as smoothly as possible, ParkHere set up an on-site help desk to provide immediate first-level support. This allowed initial questions to be answered right away.
