The main cause of global warming is the gases produced when fossil fuels—such as heating oil, diesel, gasoline, and coal—are burned. These so-called greenhouse gases enrich the atmosphere with CO2 (carbon dioxide), which impairs the Earth’s ability to radiate heat. As a result, the average global temperature is rising. For ParkHere GmbH, the logical conclusion is to contribute to climate protection as a company and to ensure that its own business operations generate as few greenhouse gas emissions as possible.
ParkHere took a closer look at the carbon footprint of its own products, procured goods, and logistics processes. Measures such as going paperless, eliminating single-use items like plastic cutlery and cups, and switching entirely to green electricity were the first steps toward becoming a climate-neutral company.
ParkHere's company guidelines have now been updated to include additional provisions, such as business travel. As a result, business travel by plane will no longer be permitted; instead, travel should be conducted by train whenever possible, as the train is the least climate-damaging form of public transportation.
Furthermore, ParkHere will offset the company’s remaining emissions—approximately 76 metric tons of CO2 per year—by investing in a climate project. The partner in this climate project is the Brazilian association“Associação ProBrasil,” which is responsible for building the environmental center in the Serra da Capivara. The Serra da Capivara National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the southeastern part of the Brazilian state of Piauí. The activities of the environmental center are intended to promote sustainable agriculture, ecological water management, reforestation, and ecotourism in this region. The project receives significant support from the German nonprofit ProBrasil e.V. in Düsseldorf. Funding is provided by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
With this approach, ParkHere also aims to raise awareness in its external communications, as resource conservation is fundamental to all of ParkHere’s solutions and products. “Carpooling, electric mobility, smart parking management: Our business has always focused on eliminating unnecessary trips, reducing traffic congestion during the commute and at parking facilities, and planning commutes using an efficient combination of transportation modes. So it’s only logical that we also address our CO2 emissions going forward,” emphasizes Felix Harteneck, CEO and founder of ParkHere.
